INDIAN HEAD, Md. - Cpl. Ronald R. Seaver dangles high above the ground during the execution of a midpoint drop during training at the Naval Support Facility Indian Head located here April 19. During a rope rescue the technician is attached to a pulley system that has been constructed over a victim who cannot be rescued by simply walking down to where they are trapped and injured, as in the case of a ravine. After the rescue platoon Marine is centered over the victim he is lowered down to them by executing a midpoint drop. Once the technician has made contact with the victim he must assess the severity of injuries and decide the most efficient and expedient way to package the victim for rescue.
