WASHINGTON - Petty Officer 1st Class Lawrence E. Pieper stands near the "Lone Sailor" statue following a Naval Medicine wreath-laying ceremony at the Navy Memorial June 15.  The wreath laying was conducted in memory of the lives of Naval Medicine officers and sailors lost in the line of duty.  The statue is a seven-foot tall bronze replica of a 2nd class petty officer in his mid-twenties who is standing watch over the granite sea, the map of the world and surrounding oceans.
