Randall's Island, NY - Marines and sailors with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force conducted an annual training exercise alongside the New York City Fire Department at a training academy in Randall's Island, New York. CBIRF conducted rope rescue, vehicle extrication, structural collapse and confined space training during the week long exercise. The event culminated with a night operation at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, where Marines and sailors rescued role-playing casualties from a simulated bomb explosion. The mission of CBIRF is to forward-deploy and/or respond, when directed, to a credible threat of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive incident in order to assist local, state or federal agencies and unified combat commanders in the conduct of consequence management operations.
