Swanson, Jr. receives a slice a cake from First Sergeant Rudolph Carter during the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force's celebration of the 239th Marine Corps Ball, November 8, 2014 in Arlington, Virginia. Carter, 96, was the oldest Marine present at the ball and one of the original Montford Point Marines who attended boot camp in 1942. Swanson, 18, was the youngest Marine present. The two shared a piece of cake, signifying the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young of our Corps.
