Commanding Officer

Colonel Quist graduated from Colby College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2002.

He joined 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines in November 2003 and served on a unit deployment and two Marine Expeditionary Units as a rifle platoon commander, a mobile assault platoon commander, and the Assistant Operations Officer.  During these deployments, he supported Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and 2007 in Ramadi and Barwanah, Iraq.

Colonel Quist reported for instructor duty at The Basic School (TBS) in July 2007 and served as a warfighting instructor, staff platoon commander, and the Command Section Head in the Warfighting Department.  Following his TBS tour, he graduated from the Expeditionary Warfare School in April 2011, took command of Company C, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July 2011.

While deployed, Colonel Quist was evacuated to the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he remained a Marine in care until August 2017.  While in care, he performed additional duty as the Joint Officer Matters Officer at Manpower Management Officer Assignments, graduated with distinction with a Master of Military Studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and served as the Aide-De-Camp to the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.

Following the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ approval of his request to remain on active duty, Colonel Quist returned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in August 2017, and deployed to the Black Sea Rotational Force / Marine Rotational Force Europe 18.1 as the Battalion Executive Officer.  He subsequently served as the Headquarters Battalion Executive Officer at 2nd Marine Division.

In July 2019, Colonel Quist reported to Combat Development and Integration and served as the Operations Officer for the Marine Corps Integration Division, Capabilities Development Directorate, where he managed the initial thirteen integrated planning team efforts for Force Design 2030.

In June 2020, Colonel Quist returned to TBS and commanded the Warfighting Instructor Battalion until June 2022. Following his command tour, he attended The Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, where he graduated with distinction with a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy and a concentration in Global Supply Chain and Logistics.

Upon his graduation, Colonel Quist reported to Plans, Policies and Operations in June 2023 to serve as the Ground Combat and Futures Section Head in the Future Operations Branch.  Upon his promotion to Colonel, he reported to 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade in July 2024 to serve as the Operations Officer, during which he deployed to Task Force 61/2 to support crisis response efforts within 6th Fleet’s area of responsibility.
