LtCol Michael Reel

LtCol. Reel currently serves as the Executive Officer, Chemical and Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command.

He is a 2003 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and was designated a Naval Aviator in July 2005. 

After completing initial training in the CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter with HMM (T)-164 “Knightriders,” First Lieutenant Reel reported to HMM-161 “Greyhawks” aboard MCAS Miramar, CA.  While assigned to the “Greyhawks” he completed two deployments ISO Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In August 2009, Captain Reel graduated from the EWTGPAC TACP course and reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. In October 2009, Captain Reel graduated from the MAWTS-1 Air Officer course and subsequently deployed as the Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/4 Air Officer for the 15th MEU. 

After completing MV-22B transition training in October 2011, Captain Reel reported to Marine Aircraft Group 16 aboard MCAS Miramar and was assigned to VMM-161 “Greyhawks” where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Director of Safety and Standardization.  In July 2012, he deployed with the “Greyhawks” to Bastion, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2.

In April 2014, Major Reel was assigned to VMM-764 “Moonlighters” to stand up the first reserve MV-22B squadron.  Major Reel served as the Director of Safety and Standardization and Aircraft Maintenance Officer.  In January 2017, Major Reel deployed with the “Moonlighters” on the first MV-22B reserve squadron deployment to Moron, Spain ISO SPMAGTF-CR-AF. 

Major Reel reported to Marine Transport Squadron Belle Chase in August 2017 where he served as the Operations Officer  and flew Joint Operational Support Airlift Command (JOSAC) missions in the UC-12W and the UC-35C.  He was promoted to LtCol in August 2020.

In May 2021, LtCol Reel was assigned to his current duty station as the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) Executive Officer.

His personal awards include Air Medal-Strike Flight Award with Numeral 10, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star.
